Prasugrel is a new oral effective thienopyridine drug. Like clopidogrel, prasugrel is an inactive prodrug that is metabolically converted to an active metabolite by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system to irreversibly inhibit P2Y12 adenosine diphosphate receptors on platelets.
